It all starts with a pile of T-shirts. The top brown one is a great color but it was too short in the sleeves and in the length. It had a crooked button closure. The others were thrift shop purchases. (Value Village, again.)
Time for a makeover!!
Time for a makeover!!
I threaded my surger with a dark brown color on the upper looper and a beige shade on the lower looper.
Have I mentioned how much I love my surger? SO MUCH!!!!
Have I mentioned how much I love my surger? SO MUCH!!!!
I cut the edge off of the neck of the brown thrifted T-shirt to use as edging.
I cut the weird and twisty front closure out. It needed to be covered with an interesting multicolored piece.
This is what my surger does! How beautifully are these two front pieces joined? Light thread on the dark brown T-shirt and vice versa.
The multicolored material has the T-shirt edging added and is sewn in to cover the cut out. Three pieces of T-shirt are joined to form a lower front. More of the multicolored material makes a band across the front.
Now let's tackle those "too short" sleeves. A piece of the multicolored material is surged on the end of the offending sleeves...
.... and then surged along the bottom to finish the edge nicely. Ahh!! Better!
Planning the back gets a little messy, as you can see. This must happen before the full creation emerges. Cutting, piecing, re-cutting, and on, and on. It is the best part! The juices are flowing.
It starts to come together here with the band going across to match the front.
One more piece of the multicolored material and the band gets pinned all the way around.
The back emerges fully formed. (Wow, I use a lot of pins!)
Now for some pockets. They are shaped and the outer edges surged. Placement took a long time. I played, and moved, and manipulated them. I am very hard to please sometimes!
This is how I ended up pinning them, kind of slanted and puffy.
Buttons! Buttons! Buttons!
Here is my makeover shirt! I am just down the road at my neighbor's place. (She makes a mean Caesar!)
Ready for the night out in my new shirt!
